Wunderkammer Latin America have been looking through and selecting proposals to be a part of Drive-in Rio. This is always an exciting stage as one considers the possibilities of what the project can become. You will soon be able to see the full line-up on our new website: www.driveinrio.com.

The shows so far a part of Drive-in Rio all consider Time. More specifically, the elapsing of time. Be it through compressing 100 years into ten minutes with Fuso Coletivo, a dystopian vision of the future in ’Fuel’ or time standing still in a surreal moment as with the show ’Paradise in Peaces’. Amazonia Regina – our ’inconvenient queen’ surveys the earth below her war room where we see rain forests depleated and repopulated. In ’Weep’ a proposal from Danish artists Ida Elizabeth Larsen ad Marie-Louise Stentebjerg we see the many thousands of tears shed by the cars two inhabitants who are fully submerged in water where-after a choreography of crying commences. The sheer volume of the water is yet another indication of time passing. Time also stands still for the public as they are implicated in the agony of Maria Carolina Telles & Andrea Cassola’s proposal ’Carro Feminista’. An ominous Yanomami for-warning accompanies ’The Jungle Car’ by Lucas telling us time is running out until the sky lietrally falls on our heads.

This approach to the project sees the artists allowing themselves to fast forward, freeze frame, and roll back time. For me, this communicates each artist is trying to tackle what this Drive-in Rio’s themes really are. The pre-occupation with time in the work demonstrates a real engagement with the issue of sustainability. They are coming at it from all angles and what’s more presenting work which engages the mind and makes people think about the issues involved. If you’d like to check out more ressources regarding the 7 major themes of Rio + 20 follow this link: 7 critical issues at Rio + 20

The real aim of this sprawling performance installation is to create for the duration of the show, another reality. From the proposals so far we are edging towards a critical, dark and thoughtful consideration of a world that needs to sit up and take note. Engage in the chaos!

5/6 Stars.

Parallell realities

We went to see Wunderkammers no known cause after attending one of the five previous dress rehearsals.
The dress rehearsal, seemed to be spatial experiment, where our reaction to the space and a series of tableaus in the various rooms that together with the a corridor constituted the a framework in with the narrative unfolded, was observed and recorded.

When we went to see the actual thing we found, that even with a fairly simple story line, which tracks Adam’s life, the richness and inventiveness of this exotic beast of a play Wunderkammer has put together was always alluring and stimulating (sometimes perhaps even over stimulateing)
It’s astounding how we are made to feel sympathetic towards the drunk driving, girlfriend slaying, even apathetic Adam, maybe that due to his honesty in in his narration of his story.

The almost apocalyptic ending- where a executioner like character passing his judgement on us and Adam (‘tear down the wall?’) was maybe an abrupt from the universe we had been so captivated by up to that point, but we are very aware that that is a matter of taste.

We found the way it works with linking different medias together, such as projections, space and
live acting specially interesting. Not to mention the introduction of a different way of working with
chronology. As you are led through new spaces you always come back to
the corridor, which works as both a spatial timeline and a theme that the narrative revolves around.

We came out from the play with a feeling that peeling away some the elements that might not have been crucial to the storyline would have suited the play, but also with a feeling of having witnessed something deeply original and uplifting.

ØMME DUPPER

Forestillingen

I’m not sure if I was more excited by the set up of the show (we were led through a series of rooms, always returning to an ever-expanding corridor), the performance itself (a dynamic and engaging story of a man who loses his mind after a car accident), or the location (in a warehouse at the old Carlsberg brewery site).

“No Known Cause” has to be one of the most intriguing, most engaging theatre productions i’ve ever seen. The one hour long production has been scaring, captivating and pleasing theatre lovers and other enthusiasts for the past week or so, staged at the endearing industrial surroundings of the Ny Tap hall, outside Carlsberg’s factory by Enghave station. Part of The Metropolis festival for art and performance in Urban Space, “No known Cause” leads its spectators through the journey of a young man and his elation, sorrow, dilemmas, actions and reactions. In keeping with previous productions by the exciting Wunderkammer artistic collective, the audience are part and parcel of the plot of the piece. This particular production shepherds its audience through a series of hazy dreams and graphic sequences that epitomise and accentuate the fragility and significance of life. Be prepared to be guests in the ever-evolving patterns of your wandering lives !

August 18th – 27th as part of KIT Metropolis Festival 2011.

Ny Tap, Carlsberg, Copenhagen.

English Language. 45min Ca.

We live our lives side by side, thin plaster walls dividing our existence, a millennia of choices leading up to the present moment. In The Corridor new rules apply…take a look, listen hard.

A combination of performance, video and installation creates an alternative and distorted reality. Absurd meetings occur, conversations out of sync, you are a guest in the random, colossal nature of your life.

Wunderkammer co-founder Sam Moore, collaborated with Dancer/Choreographer Esther Wrobble on a short vertical dance piece titled “The Room”,part of 4 works titled “In Peaces” He helped developed the concept and created the video projection for the work. Here is a review by Danish dance critic Vibeke Wern.

Fra brud til fred

Dans.

Vibeke Wern

FIRE STJERNER
Hvad: “In Peaces”
Hvem: 3rd Addiction. Af og med Kuindersma og Wrobel
Hvor: Dansehallerne, Lille Carl, sidste dag 15. april
